About the unit

The Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) unit, situated at the 8th floor of the S.N. Bose Bhavan, was founded in 1994, to focus on research in computer vision and pattern recognition, in particular optical character recognition (OCR), document analysis, handwriting recognition and image processing under the leadership of Professor B. B. Chaudhuri. 

Over the years, the focus of the unit has expanded to include the areas of language technologies, information retrieval and signal processing.
